The SWEET Project generated a significant amount of press and social media interest across the globe in early January 2018 by using a Climate Model to simulate and explore the climate of the world of Game of Thrones. This helps to illustrate how climate models work and to highlight some fascinating climate science going on in the real world. In SWEET we are currently using novel techniques to reconstruct the climate of super-warm states of Earth’s past – which in turn will help to test state-of-the-art climate models under conditions of high atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations similar to those expected by the end of this century.
